If there is one trend that does not seem to go is the recent return of hanging plants, to our indoor and outdoor living areas. Whether we like it or not, these planters offer the possibility of integrating green plants, such as succulents, even in the smallest spaces, and prove to be a beautiful decorative asset offering a world of possibilities. Indeed, if you lack space on the ground, you will be happy to opt for an aerial plant.

Nowadays hanging plants are no longer necessarily synonymous with boho-inspired interiors. Macrame hangers are indeed back, but many models of wall and hanging planters with modern lines are now available on the market. The hanging plant can now take part in all types of decorations. In a converted industrial space where ceilings are very high and lack interest, hanging plants can help create a warm atmosphere.

What type of plant to choose for a hanging pot?

It all depends on the intended location. If our hanging pot is installed above the level of the heads, it is better to choose a hanging plant in order to appreciate its cascading foliage. Among the most common varieties:

  • Pothos
  • Ivy
  • Fern
  • Eucalyptus
  • Bamboo
  • Spider plant

However, there are other plants that deserve just as much attention: the purple heart for its nuanced and colorful foliage or the fittonia for its grey-green foliage, to name just a few. It is best to opt for artificial models to avoid watering them, especially since it can be difficult to reach pots placed high up.

If we plan to install our plant at eye level, near a window or a wall for example, all types of green plants, even cactus, are allowed. It is up to you to determine whether you want your pot to be visible or not.

Which pot to choose for your hanging plant?

To highlight the foliage of your plant, what better than to place it in a hanging pot. Several materials exist on the market for each type of decoration: wood, concrete, ceramic or fiberglass.

First determine the style of your home to make the right choice. For a boho interior, opt for a mix of wood and macrame. As for the ceramic planter, it will be perfect for minimalist and farmhouse style decorations. Finally, if your design is more modern, then you will be delighted by the geometrically shaped pots.

For the patio and garden, opt for plastic pots that will resist the weather. In addition to these planters installed on the ceiling, others can also be hung directly on the wall for easier access.

Where to put a hanging plant?

All rooms are ideal for installing plants in hanging pots. In the hallway, where space is often limited, it’s a great way to add an interesting visual element. The same goes for the bathroom.

Green plants help create environments with positive vibes. In an office, they increase productivity, in a workshop, they stimulate creativity, and in a bedroom, they promote relaxation. To delimit two rooms, such as the living room and the kitchen, you could also gather a few artificial plants together to form a 100% plant-based, maintenance-free separation. The ideal is to hang your plant in the corner of a room or on top of a piece of furniture, so that it is not in your way and you do not have to lower your head.

How to install a hanging plant?

The most common way to hang a pot is probably with the famous hook screwed to the ceiling. If your plant and its pot are heavy, however, make sure to find the nearest joist to the desired location in order to obtain more solidity.

Several other options are also possible. Among these, we find the curtain rod that allows you to install one or more pots quickly and the bracket that has recently become very popular. Installed on the wall, it creates the necessary place for your plant to fall properly. Dare even to create a duo!
