Looking for a planter for your green plant? This article is for you! Take a few minutes to read our 3 golden rules, in order to make an informed decision about the choice of your new pot. You will avoid ending up with a planter that does not match the style or size of your artificial plant. In short, they will save you a lot of trouble by making your life easier!
1- Determine the size of the pot according to your plant
Before choosing a particular pot, take the time to measure your plant. Since most artificial plants are sold in a black container, take note of the container’s height and diameter.
Generally speaking, if your container has a diameter of 6 inches (as illustrated above), it is better to choose a planter that is about 2 to 6 inches larger. In other words, for this monstera, you will have to choose a planter between 8 and 12 inches in diameter. However, for large plants such as the bird of paradise, rely on the plant’s width by measuring the total diameter of the foliage. The ideal pot should measure 1/3 of this dimension.
As for the height, in the case of short trunk plants, respect as best you can the container’s height in which it is sent in, without going more than 3 inches higher. For long trunks, you can go up to 6 inches higher.
Tip #1 : if you have found a pot with a matching diameter, but the height is too high, you can use an object at the bottom of the pot to raise your plant. Problem solved!
Tip #2 : it may be appropriate to take the total width of your plant's foliage as a reference, in order to choose a pot that will stay within that dimension.
