During the holiday season, you will find many varieties of artificial snow on the market, from frosted snow to snowflakes. So much to choose from, that it can be difficult to find your way around! In order to help you choose the right type of fake snow for your creative Christmas project, here is a short guide on the main differences in finishes, uses and textures.

1- Artificial adhesive frost snow

Adhesive artificial snow is a so-called “sticky” snow, meaning that it will stick to the surface where you will sprinkle it. There is more than one way to use this type of snow, whether it is on a Christmas centerpiece, a poinsettia bouquet, or a small real or artificial Christmas tree. This fake snow with a frosted finish will bring a natural look to your Christmas arrangements worthy of the cold winter days.

2- Artificial adhesive snowflakes

Are you looking for a more snowy effect on your Christmas creations? Get some adhesive snowflakes. This self-adhesive snow will also stick to the desired surface. Unlike frosted snow, fluffy snow will imitate perfectly the powdery snow of beautiful winter days. You will therefore obtain a thicker and less fine decorative snow. Use it for your outdoor Christmas arrangements, spruce, Christmas trees (natural or not) or Christmas villages.

Snow mats are offered in different sizes. You will find them as small 13 x 13” squares or as large 48 x 31.5” rectangles. These ones will be perfect as tree skirts to surround the base of Christmas trees, while the squares will make excellent starting points for your miniature Christmas village. Also, the rugs are easy to cut to the desired shape and size. Please note that the faux snow mats can only be used indoors.

4- Artificial non-adhesive snow

For some Christmas DIYs, the use of non-sticky artificial snow is imperative to the success of the final project! For example, to make your own snow globe, you’ll need to make sure that the snow you choose doesn’t stick to the sphere. Non-adhesive fake snow is a must when it comes to create a magical creation, where the idea is to replicate the effect of snowflakes falling naturally from the sky. It can also be found in other forms such as crystallized snow.

5- Polyester fluff snow

When the time comes to create a Christmas village, it can be interesting to choose the fake fluffy snow. Easy to shape into the desired form, this snow will wonderfully reproduce snow banks and snowy mounts. It can be used as a base for Christmas houses and figurines. Made of polyester, this snow looks like cotton balls, which will give your creations an abundant snow finish! Please note that it can only be used indoors.
