Rustic Christmas decor gets a sophisticated spin this holiday season by way of chalet chic decor. With its neutral color palette, it’s a style that can last for a whole season, with a lot of decor pieces being able to adorn your home for the entire winter season.
When it comes to the colors you need to get this style down pact, opt for a harmonious palette of mainly white and beige tone on tone. For a more festive touch, metallics like gold or silver can be added, but the overall vibe in a chalet chic decor remain understated without too much sparkle.
Like the rest of your decor, your Christmas lights should also be in the white family. You want to create a holiday space that is bright, warm and welcoming!
Greenery is a must! Whether you’re decorating the inside or outside of your home, add wreaths, swags and plain garlands of rich artificial greenery that will give your space an overall natural look – even if they’re not-so-natural!
Be sure to use different types of foliage within your firs and pines; eucalyptus is a seasonal essential. Pine branches and succulents can also be added to your arrangements. Within your Christmas tree, create a deconstructed look by adding different types of greenery that protrude or even hang a little. If you’re feeling bold this season, you can also add flowers in complementary tones.
Use ornaments that are made from natural elements in your Christmas tree – opt for wool, bark or birch type ornaments, or even wood finials for example. Finish off the chalet look with pinecones, berries, and acorns that are placed a little everywhere in the tree. Texture is key, so make sure to use as much as possible in your ornaments. Where possible, opt for matte finishes over glossy or sparkly.
Alpine trees, with their fresh-cut look, look particularly great in this type of decor. If opting for one (or even 3!) of these as your Christmas tree, leave it bare to keep that “just chopped” look alive inside.
Use a comfy, oversize throw as an ingenious way to cover the base of your tree. You can also use a wood base that will pull from the other wood elements in your holiday decor.
High up on the list of DON’Ts for this type of decor is using too many decorative accents or pieces that are a bit too fancy. Forget feathers and crystals and opt for simplicity. The same goes for any ribbons you feel that you may need to add to your tree – or anything else – stick to neutrals. Instead of decorating with tulle, opt instead for burlap.
If you plan on decorating your table for a big holiday meal, use a lot of lanterns for a cozy ambiance. If you don’t have lanterns, you can also use strands of fairy lights set in bottles or glass vases for an ethereal look.
This is not the type of decor for an oversized centerpiece, opt insteaf for some pine branches with foliage down the center of the table. You can also use wood presentation platters and hand-made place settings. Finally, add a couple of decorative jingle bells, and you’re set!
