This home decor expert is also the creator of the Instagram account @tarynfalconerdesignstudio in which she shares her latest findings, tips and inspirations. What is the Design Interviews series ? It is a special series of articles featuring our local designers and content creators! In this segment, you can read all the highlights of Décors Véronneau’s conversations with specialists in the Canadian home design industry.
1- What style inspires your interior design?
Taryn : “I definitely couldn’t chose just one style! I love so many different ones and for different reasons. I think I have a variation of styles throughout my home. Some new, some old, some inherited and of course many pieces I have created myself! So many of my pieces tell a story or hold a certain memory for me. I believe you should surround yourself with items you love and so that is exactly what I do!”
2- What led you to create an Instagram account dedicated to home decor?
Taryn : “I have loved all things home since I can remember! It all started when I was a little girl, I use to rearrange my room on a regular basis. I have always been a creative person into fashion, art and design (I went to school to get my degree in design). I have been a designer for quite a few years but when covid hit and I was stuck in my home for months, I really felt like I needed an outlet and I was already spending lots of time fixing up my home and thought why not start my page @tarynfalconerdesignstudio to share what I am doing. Not only did this become sort of a therapy for me but I realized people were enjoying my content and I was inspiring so many. Then along the way I made some wonderful friendships (with other accounts where we could share our love of home decor), we got each other ! As I grew I then have had the opportunity to work with some amazing brands. It ended up becoming so much more then I could ask for and I feel truly blessed!”
3- When it comes to decorating, are there any items you couldn't live without?
Taryn : “Yes! My recent list is as follows :
• Lighting: this is so important I am partial to using lamps and more mood lighting but it is always important to have good lighting in a space.
• Accent rugs : this can completely transform a space and is a great way to bring in colour, pattern and also can help creative division from one space to the next.
• Greenery (my favourite home accent) : it just brings a space to life!
• Artwork : it really creates a fun and cozy environment.”
4- How important are flowers and plants to you when it comes to decorating a space?
Taryn : “Plants and flowers are my favourite way to add an organic element to any space, not only are they beautiful but they can also add a pop of colour. They really help bring so much life into a space and make things feel really cozy.”
6- What's the best trick you've learned for showcasing plants?
Taryn : “My best trick is (buy an oversized decorative pot) then prop your plant up by using a little bucket or basket inside the oversized pot. Set your plant on top of that to give it some additional height. Then use packaging or paper and stuff all the gaps so that the plant doesn’t move around in your oversized decorative pot. Then take some cardboard and cut a piece to fit the top (place it around your plant) this will hold your topper. Then add your topper I like rocks, moss and soil.”
7- How do you select plants for your home (favorite, current trend, etc.)?
Taryn : « I always choose what I like best (I try not to follow trends, as we all know they disappear as soon as they arrive) when selecting plants and flowers… I like to vary the styles (you don’t want to have a too uniform decor). I like to choose different heights and sizes when buying flowers and other decorative accents. »
8- What is your favorite flower?
Taryn : “I love white hydrangeas, white tulips and of course some beautiful magnolias !”
9- What do flowers mean to you?
Taryn : “Flowers always make me think of spring! But I also just find them to be very beautiful and romantic and always add a little “wow” factor to a space!”
10- What do you like best about Décors Véronneau's flowers and plants?
Taryn : “Hands down the best quality plants and flowers I have received to date (and I am super picky about my faux plants and flowers) I don’t want them to look like faux! I would definitely recommend your amazing company and already have many times”
11- According to you, what is the main advantage of the artificial?
Taryn : “The main advantage is, no maintenance needed whether you have a green thumb or not, they always look good! I also like that for some of the bigger plants (that I have bought to fit a space) I know they won’t out grow the space and thats a bonus for me.”
12- Which Décors Véronneau's plants or flowers do you have in mind for the next season?
Taryn : “I am eyeing some of their outdoor plants for my patio! We have a huge deck and I would love to make it feel like an island paradise full of greenery. I love that you offer special outdoor plants that can withstand the UV rays! I can’t wait to try some.”
