In this seventh edition of the Design Interviews series, Décors Véronneau met the designer Catherine Côté to discover her latest project, Sur-le-lac. Founder of Catherine Côté – L’atelier design, an interior design firm located on Montreal’s North Shore, Catherine has a passion for transforming her clients’ decors! In this exclusive interview, learn more about her company, her favorite interior design style, and the importance of plants and flowers in the spaces she works on.

1- What style inspires your interior design?
Catherine : “Wabi-sabi! I love this style so much, but especially the mentality behind it. I love integrating aesthetically the live and let live concept. It creates spaces that are so unique and full of history. It’s a more timeless design, which allows me to incorporate it into many of my projects. “
2- What led you to create an Instagram account dedicated to home decor?
Catherine : “Promoting my company, and sharing my favorite decorating trends and my latest projects.”
Catherine Côté – L’atelier design is a creative interior design firm specializing in residential projects in Montreal and surrounding areas. Her mission is to listen to our clients’ needs, while respecting their vision from the beginning to the end.
3- How important are flowers and plants to you when it comes to decorating a space?
Catherine : “Very important! I love incorporating natural elements into my settings. Personally, I love being in connexion with nature. So I’m naturally inclined to incorporate flowers and plants into my designs. “
5- Do you have a green thumb?
Catherine : “Unfortunately not, which is why I prefer to go for artificial plants and flowers from Décors Véronneau!”
6- What is your favourite trend in the world of plants (variety, a way to use them: in pots, in plant walls, hanging, etc.)?
Catherine : «I LOVE the oversized branches that can be added to large pots or pretty vases! It’s simply perfect for enhancing and refreshing a space like a kitchen.”
7- What do you like best about Décors Véronneau's flowers and plants?
Catherine: “Their realistic, natural look adds a touch of elegance to the decor! What’s more, since artificial plants and flowers require no maintenance, I can freely integrate them wherever I like, without worrying about watering or lighting.”
8- According to you, what is the main advantage of the artificial?
Catherine: “It’s so easy! When I’m designing a decor for a customer, it’s easy for me to be able to incorporate greenery in a room without having constraints related to location.”
9- What's the best trick you've learned for showcasing plants?
Catherine : “Choosing the perfect planter to show off your plant!”

10- What's your favorite flower and what does it evoke for you?
Catherine: “I love the cotton flower, it brings so much softness to a room!”
11- What is your favourite season to decorate?
Catherine: “Fall for its colorful, earthy hues.”
