What is the Design Interviews series ? It is a special series of articles featuring our local designers and content creators! In this segment, you can read all the highlights of Décors Véronneau’s conversations with specialists in the Canadian home design industry.
1- What style inspires your interior design?
Emilie: “It’s not a specific style but a mix of them. I like a lot of styles except the ultra modern and cold decor. I like the more neutral designs, very bright and warm with my little touch of gold.”
2- What led you to create an Instagram account dedicated to home decor?
Emilie: “I created my Instagram page @emilie_cerretti, because I define myself as a ”decoholic” and I love sharing my creations. I love everything about interior design, from plans to finishing details, to DIYs and slices of my life.”
3- When it comes to decorating, are there any items you couldn't live without?
Emilie: “I could never live without with my antique dining room table, as well as the cabinet I inherited from my grandparents. There’s also a small painting done by an Italian artist, which my father gave me on a trip there, that will always follow me everywhere.”
4- How important are flowers and plants to you when it comes to decorating a space?
Emilie: “Greenery is essential in all my projects. I can’t imagine a room without plants, it’s too sad! Plants bring life and freshness to every room in the house!”
5- What plants are in your top 3?
Emilie: “I love the fiddle-leaf fig and the olive tree that furnish so well the corners of the house, a staircase or a mezzanine in need of color. These small plants are just as pretty in a beautiful planter. I also really like lemon trees, since they remind me of my trips to Italy!”
6- Do you have a green thumb?
Emilie: “Yes and no! I like to take care of plants that are ‘easy’ to maintain, play in the dirt and work outside in my flower beds in the summer. However, I split my life between the house and my cottage, so I’m not always around to care for them so I sometimes lose some unfortunately.”
7- What is your favorite trend in the world of plants (variety, a way to use them: in pots, in plant walls, hanging, etc.)?
Emilie: “My favorite trend is to use potted plants and group several of different sizes on the floor to dress up a corner. Small tabletop plants are also great for decorating shelves, bookcases, tables, consoles, etc. I love hanging plants when space allows it. Plant walls are also interesting in commercial spaces.”
8- What is your favorite flower?
Emilie: “Too hard to choose just one! I can never get enough of a big bouquet of hydrangeas or peonies, which are timeless classics for me. Right now, I would love to put a huge bouquet of mimosas or apple blossoms in a glass vase on my kitchen counter!”
9- What do you like best about Décors Véronneau's flowers and plants?
Emilie: “The realistic look of the artificial plants and flowers is to die for! I like them to be as close to the real thing as possible!”
10- According to you, what is the main advantage of the artificial?
Emilie: “Obviously, the ease of the beautiful ‘faux’. I find it a good investment to buy artificial plants and flowers that stay beautiful for a long time, don’t fade, and are easy to care for, not to mention the life they add to the house year round. It’s really convenient for people like me.”
11- What is your favourite season to decorate?
Emilie: “Fall for the “cozy” side that we love so much! I like to add decorative elements to “winterize” the house with throws, textured pillows, candles and pretty rugs. I also love spring to lighten up our decor. Spring is, for me, the perfect time to renew, reorganize the home and refresh the decor.”
12- Which Décors Véronneau's plants or flowers do you have in mind for the next season?
Emilie: “I think the bouquet of mimosas is really going to end up somewhere in my house very soon otherwise, a beautiful potted ficus for its nice big green leaves to dress up a corner of the house!”
